Tom PedersenProfessor and Dean of Science, University of Victoria Dr. Pedersen's scientific interests encompass a broad spectrum within sedimentary marine and lacustrine geochemistry and paleoclimatology. His current interests include: oceanographic history along the western margin of North America and the relationship of observed variability to global and regional climate change; the geochemistry of silver in the sea; and the chemical evolution of abandoned mine site pit lakes. Dr. Pedersen received his Ph. D. from the University of Edinburgh. He joined the University of British Columbia (U. B. C.) in 1983 and was a Professor in Oceanography and Earth and Ocean Science from 1994 to 2002. In 2000 he was appointed Associate Dean of Research and Faculty Development in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at U. B. C. In September 2002 Dr. Pedersen took on the position of Professor and Director, School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria, and assumed the position of Dean of Science one year later. During his career Dr. Pedersen has participated in numerous scientific panels and advisory groups; he has published extensively in international scientific journals and contributed more than two dozen book chapters and conference proceedings articles. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a fellow of the American Geophysical Union. |
